Oh, you know you wanna make tall socks. Very tall, or just tall. This here pattern was the catalyst, but feel free to use your own pattern. Or if you do like Kelly’s pattern, but don’t like the gauge used, but couldn’t be bothered to figure a new gauge - let’s do it together. Don’t like the striping?Well, make up your own and share! No excuses. Let’s do it. (I got this on ebay the other day)
This event is co-hosted by iHanna in Sweden, which is kinda fitting, n’est pas? Hanna just finished her first pair of sockor. (That’s your first of many Swedish words - socks. What’s the singular, Hanna?)
Also participating: Cassie.
We were thinking of 15th January 2005 as a starting date. Sign up with me in the comments, with Hanna or Cassie.
Any guidance on KAL organisation is very much appreciated, none of us three has even participated in a KAL before.
My favourite part is that it takes soooooo looooooooong to get to the heel. Oh, the design possibilities. Oh, the books I still have to show you.
And the LES Sock Mafia pulls ahead with serious Organized Sock Knitting! That’s okay. Brooklyn is okay with that. Let the LES have its moment in the sun. ;)
so how long do these socks have to be to qualify? are knee-highs ok, ’cause that’s what i’m planning on making …
if not i will claim i’m absolutely incredibly short and thus what’s kneesocks for you are VERY TALL SOCKS for me.
You’re crazy! ;D I would never make it through those tall socks. More power to you and your fellow tall sock knitalongers.
Yay, here we goooo!
Wooohaaa! Cool, knee highs are welcome to join in! Will post about this hmm.. tomorrow I think. I’ve just spent a loooong day by the computer, and have to log of NOW.
Singular for socks in swedish is SOCKA. En socka = one sock.
Knit-a-looong-sock (or two) is going to be fun, fun, fun!
*dithers* ok, I’ll join ya! Bit concerned about where the suspender belt clips on to the sock - thinking of making an eyelet so it doesn’t snap/warp the clip… but I’ll think more on that later…
Count me in! I have been eyeing those very tall socks, and this is just the inspiration I need to start them. The January 15th start date is perfect for me.
I’d like to join! I kept checking the knitty boards, hoping someone would start a KAL for those socks, and today i was pleasantly surprised to see your post. :)
I’m in! Goodness knows I don’t have the time for yet another project, but this will be fun! Power to the KNitty people! Thank you to iHanna for bringing this in place! Happy Holidays & Happy New Year! Talk to you all soon!
Ok, I will have internet even if I must travel to Starbuck’s to get it! Sorry for my belated commenting, and for the fact that I am hi-jacking V’s comments for use as my interim blog.
I have purchased my yarn. Photos of colors will be on my blog this week, thanks to Starbucks and WiFi. I’m using (I think, have not yet swatched) Debbie Bliss cash-merino aran. Although this seems bizarrely chunky to me, it seems comparable in wt and gg to what the pattern called for. And I’m prepared to accept that my legs will look a bit “padded” in order to have warm enough legs that I can wear a skirt. Looking over the pattern, I am wondering if I want to add elastic thread to the top?
Logisticly, can/should we start a sockalong blog? Would love to see/read everyone’s thoughts, questions, progress in one place…
i just started these gorgeous socks over the weekend. i hope i can still join this knitalong!
Ermm, Hummm, ermm,,, I have knitted jumpers when I was teenager, but not socks. Ermm,, would like to join but I don’t know how to knit socks! Is there a website with detailed instructions so I can have a practice run?
Thanks
Esther
I’d love to join the long sock along. I think I found the perfect yarn for it but am goging to double check the pattern first.
