No, no. You’re where you think you are. I understand that a picture of actual knitting may be confusing. Come in.

What pattern is this? Demerits for not getting it right on the first try. Everybody and their cats are knitting it. Except me, I’m stopping at half a Monkey. I thought I’d read someplace that Monkey is great for striping yarn, but it seems that I misremembered. I tried to like it, alas no, this Regia Canadian Colour needs to become something else. I also do not like the pattern enough to retry it in a different yarn. For the kind of pattern it is (easy, bordering on boring), I think that Cascading Leaves gives a more aesthetically pleasing result. The twisted rib cuff, that part I do like.

This means I’m back at the beginning: what pattern, what yarn? Yarnwise - quick look-see at the stash. Preferably, I’d like to use “local” yarn. The most local yarn, with the factory at about a half hour’s train ride away, is Lang Yarns. I’ve got plenty of that, but, meh. Then there are the German yarns, but I’m not giving up the Trekking. Sorry, pal. Nor the purple Opal. The rest are selfstriping yarns, and I’m over that for now. What I wouldn’t I give for some Lorna’s Laces, sigh.

What I really would like best of all, is to find a small scale hand dyer, along the lines of Sundara, Brooklyn Handspun, etc., but I don’t know my way around the European yarn scene, yet. I miss the abundance of non corporate (i.e. Coats & Clarke, Lion Brand) yarn providers that I’ve learned to love in the US. And all the offerings on Etsy! Not local at all.

Patternwise - I’m very excited about Loksins!. Clearly, extra special yarn is required for this beauty. I’m thinking I may have to do it in Regia Silk, even though I’m not its biggest fan. Time to get to a yarnstore and see what I can find.
